CPS Disc Centrifuge

The CPS Disc Centrifuge uses density gradient centrifugation and Stokes settling equations to size particles from 40 microns to 10 nanometers. The manufacturer claims resolution from peak to peak with 95% resolution to 2%. For example, peaks of 100 nm and 102 nm are resolved with only 5% overlap. This is the best resolution of any sizing technique. This instrument can require long analysis times as particle size decreases (analysis time could be a few to several hours for nanometer sized particles). Since Stokes settling assumes spherical particles, particle size distribution results for flaky or irregular particles may not accurately represent the real distribution of sizes of these systems.
