Undergraduate Research Scholarship Program
Each year, the Particle Engineering Research Center (PERC) is awarded a sum of monies from the Provost's office in order to fund gifted students in undergraduate research related to the science of particles. This program has placed over 1,500 undergraduates in research over the past 14 years. Many of these students proceed to obtain their PhD in particle related fields.
An orientation meeting is scheduled in which the faculty and/or graduate student mentors will present their project. The students listen to each presentation and rate the projects they would be interested in working on. The student and mentors are then matched according to project selections ratings. The student then contacts the mentor and sets up a meeting to further discuss the project and to plan a work and meeting schedule.
At the end of the semester, the student is required to write a paper describing their research and the outcome. A short evaluation will also be turned in.
